Environmentalists plan strategies
Anti-nuclear campaigners from the Medical Association for Prevention of War, the Australian Conservation Foundation, the Wilderness Society, Friends of the Earth, the Australian Student Environment Network and campaign groups in all mainland states were among the 30 people who attended a national strategy meeting on February 3-4 in the Blue Mountains.
The meeting discussed several campaigns, including exposing the "environmental racism" of proposed radioactive waste dumps that will immediately impact on Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory; and lobbying the ALP against junking its "no new uranium mines" policy, which will be debated at the ALP's national conference in April.
Upcoming campaign events discussed include a national Day of Action initiated by the Palm Sunday Alliance to make April 1 "Nuclear Fools Day"; a Nuclear Free-ways speaking tour against radioactive waste dumps; and a Peace Convergence in June at Shoalwater Bay in Queensland against joint military exercises.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
