Lively new paper from EYA
Lively new paper from EYA
By Felicity King
The latest edition of EYA news is a special Earth Summit edition, with a feature article by the Environmental Youth Alliance delegate to the Costa Rican Youth Summit, part of the lead-up to the UN Conference on the Environment and Development (UNCED).
EYA was formed in 1990 and its first paper published in November of that year. Each issue of EYA news has improved in content and presentation. Number four makes good use of colour on the cover and in the centre. The centre is a snapshot of the state of the world's environment.
The article by EYA's delegate to the Costa Rican Youth Summit, Michelle Hovane, describes the atmosphere and highlights key issues discussed at the conference.
An explanatory tone is kept throughout the paper, particularly in the articles on Siberut and transport, giving background information as well as outlining the issues involved. The article "High school action" explains how to set up an environment group and ideas for activities at school.
A survey is included to gauge what issues and topics interest readers of EYA news.
The paper is free and sent to every school in Australia. It is also being distributed through environmental groups, cinemas, coffee shops, book shops etc.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
