UNITED STATES: Anti-war Iraq veteran faces expulsion
Dave Airhart, an anti-war activist and an Iraq war veteran, is being threatened with expulsion from Kent State University for his anti-war activities. On October 19, the Kent State Anti-War Committee disrupted US Army recruiters as they attempted to persuade students to join up. Airhart was fined US$105 by city police for "disorderly conduct" and told that he will have to appear before the university's officials to face possible probation or expulsion. When asked why he protested against the military presence on campus, Airhart responded: "I do not feel that the [university] administration should allow the military to recruit their students for an unjust war that is taking the lives of innocent people. They should be protecting their students, not using them for cannon fodder." By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
