Pine Gap trial
NEWCASTLE — Forty people attended a meeting on September 17 to hear anti-war activist Donna Mulhearn describe last December's inspection of Pine Gap by Christians Against All Terrorism. Pine Gap plays a vital role in aiding US-led wars and occupations.
The CAAT activists have been charged under the Defence (Special Undertakings) Act 1952, a law intended to protect Australian bases against enemy attack in times of war. Justice Ron Merkle QC, who resigned from the bench in disgust at the politicisation of the law, will assist their defence. Solidarity actions will be held around Australia when the trial begins. By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
