Safety faults at Kelley mansion

SYDNEY — On August 18, construction union (CFMEU) officials visited the site of the multi-million dollar home being constructed by federal Coalition MP Jackie Kelly and her husband on the Nepean River, following a report in the August 12 Daily Telegraph of safety breaches.

The officials found serious safety breaches that exposed workers and the general public to harm, including a lack of scaffolding, missing hand rails, faulty ladders and a 2.5-metre hole in the fence allowing children access to the site.

Kelly's husband, Garry Clark, is the owner-builder of the home and has the legal obligation to guarantee safety laws are adhered to. When he arrived at the site, he allegedly assaulted one of the union officials, damaging a video recorder.

"It is outrageous that an elected representative of the people could show such disregard for the safety of local workers and community members", CFMEU NSW secretary Andrew Ferguson told the August 18 Daily Telegraph.
