MAURITIUS: Solidarity vigil

Wednesday, November 17, 1993 - 11:00

On August 7 a candlelight vigil in Port Louis, Mauritius' capital, expressed solidarity with the people of Lebanon and Palestine. The protest called for a UN resolution to end Israel's war, as well as for a boycott of Israeli products and for the government to freeze diplomatic relations with Israel. The protest was addressed by Cassam Uteem, the country's former president; Ram Seegobin, a leader of the socialist group Lalit; and Port Louis mayor Reza Issack.
