VENEZUELA: Caracas prepares for WSF
The Sixth World Social Forum will be held in Caracas on January 24-29, and is expected to involve some 100,000 participants in more than 2000 events. Themes include "Power, politics and the fight for social emancipation" and "Imperial strategies and resistances of peoples". Cultural groups including indigenous performers are preparing anti-war performances for the opening ceremony. WSF organising committee member Ernesto Che Mercado said the forum will aim to create a different world and provide examples of young people's potential to help build a better future. Parallel WSF gatherings are taking place in Bamako in Mali on January 19-23 and in Karachi in Pakistan in March.

"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
