Reappraising ockerdom
Reappraising ockerdom
Following the success of last year's inaugural festival, the 1992 Australian Film Festival opens around Australia on July 23. Each state has its own program of public screenings and events between July and September.
National events in each city include showings of The Adventures of Barry McKenzie, the film that introduced the character "Bazza" to an international audience 20 years ago. Screenings of the film, made at around the time long-legged flare-wearing Alvin Purple emerged, will be followed by forums designed to "reappraise the ocker phenomenon".
For more information about the festival, phone Rosemary Blight in Sydney on (02) 332 2111 or Jane Baxter in Melbourne on (03) 563 6280.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
