Auburn rallies against racism
Graham Matthews, Sydney
Up to 80 people rallied and marched against racism in Auburn on June 3, in a community action against the federal and state governments' attacks on the Arab and Muslim communities. With chants of "Migrants are welcome, racists are not" and "Hey-hey, ho-ho, Johnnie Howard has to go", the march wound its way through Auburn's streets, gaining support of residents.
Speakers at the march included Keysar Trad from the Islamic Friendship Society; Mariam Zamiri, a young Islamic woman from Afghanistan; University of Western Sydney professor Scott Poynting; and Raul Bassi of Socialist Alliance. The rally was organised by Socialist Alliance and received broad community sponsorship.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
