ACEH: Human rights activists arrested
On July 10, Samsul Bahri, the chairperson of the Centre for Information on Aceh Referendum (SIRA) in the Tamiang region, and Saharuddin, SIRA chairperson in the Blang Pidie region, were arrested by security officers and taken to the police headquarters in their respective regions. Bahri and fellow SIRA activist Hanafiah were arrested for distributing leaflets calling for a mass strike in opposition to a draft bill on Aceh's government, which contains clauses contrary to the Helsinki peace agreement signed last August between the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM). Send protest letters to H.E. Javier Solana, secretary-general of the Council of the European Union at <presse.cabinet@consilium.eu.int> and copy to <indonesia2@un.int> and <ngochr@ohchr.org>.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
