Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation appeal
Chris Slee
Tamils around the world are collecting money to help tsunami survivors in the north and east of Sri Lanka. The Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) has played a key role in aid efforts in the north and east of Sri Lanka. Initially set up to look after people affected by the 20-year war between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the TRO has now set up camps to look after people made homeless by the tsunami.
Despite a ceasefire agreement signed in February 2002, the SLA continues to occupy much Tamil land, and has prevented hundreds of thousands of war refugees from returning to their homes. Now it has taken over some of the camps set up by the TRO for tsunami victims, ordering TRO relief workers to leave.
The Australian TRO is sending funds and volunteers to help with the work of the TRO in Sri Lanka. Cheques can be sent to Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation, PO Box 4254, Knox City, Vic 3152. Deposits can be made into Commonwealth Bank account BSB 063541 account no 10352646 (Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation - overseas aid fund).

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
