DENMARK: Right wins government, left does well

The February 8 Danish elections have left the country polarised. The ruling conservative Liberal Party retained government, despite losing four seats. Its coalition partner, the Conservatives, picked up two seats as did the anti-immigration far-right Danish Peoples Party. The main opposition Social Democratic Party, which offered a watered-down version of the government's austerity, pro-war and anti-immigration program, lost five seats. However, the pro-immigration Social Liberals increased its seats from nine to 17. The far-left Red-Green Alliance had its best result, picking up 3.4% and winning six seats.
