UNITED STATES: Students on hunger strike
On March 19, 22 Georgetown University students entered their sixth day of hunger strike, demanding the university pays all its workers a living wage. Under university regulations, subcontracted janitors must be paid US$8.50 an hour. One janitor, Sylvia Garcia, had to ask her son to drop out of high school to work to help pay bills. He also works as a janitor at the university. "We are very happy that the students have decided to help us", Garcia said, "because no-one will listen to us. The university has to listen to the students." To help, visit <http://www.georgetownlivingwage.org>.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
