Socialist Alliance reaffirms opposition to rail closure
Daniel Gregory, Sydney
The April 16 NSW state conference of the Socialist Alliance reaffirmed its policy of opposition to the planned closure of the Newcastle Rail line. The conference unanimously adopted a resolution put by Newcastle Socialist Alliance activist and Rail, Bus and Tram Union member Simon Butler. The motion read: "That this conference supports the retention of the Newcastle train line and condemns the Carr ALP state government's plans to close this important part of part of Newcastle's public transport infrastructure."
The conference also adopted motions opposing any moves to close the Tamworth to Armidale line (as flagged by former NSW transport minister Michael Costa in 2003) and pledged its support to the reopening of the Casino to Murwillumbah line.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
