Asylum sought for anti-Pinochet fighter
CANBERRA — Chilean solidarity activists around Australia have been holding information evenings to raise awareness of the conditions of political prisoners being held in Chile and other Latin American jails.
Galvarino Sergio Apablaza Guerra, also known as Comandante Salvador, was a political prisoner under General Pinochet's military regime and is being held in Argentina while the government decides whether to accept Chile's request for his extradition to face terrorism charges. A decision is expected on June 16.
Many, including Argentinian Human Rights Commission, have called for the Argentinian government to grant Apablaza political asylum. Messages of solidarity can be sent to Apablaza via <http://memoriaviva.net>.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
