Unions ACT calls protest IR rally

CANBERRA — The June 1 meeting of the ACT Trades and Labour Council, commonly known as Unions ACT, voted to hold a rally on June 26 (a Sunday) outside the Liberal Party national council meeting at the Hyatt Hotel to protest against the federal Coalition government's planned new anti-union laws.

The TLC meeting also decided to encourage ACT unionists to participate in the Unions NSW Sky Channel-linked mass meetings at 9am on July 1. However, it rejected an amendment moved by National Tertiary Education Union delegate Rick Kuhn to hold a stopwork rally outside Parliament House when the Coalition- controlled Senate meets in August.
