Political science professor Kenneth Good, who has taught at the University of Botswana for 15 years, lost an appeal in the Botswana courts on July 27 over his deportation from the country. Good was deported on May 31 as a "threat to national security" after writing and speaking publicly about democracy in Botswana and the evictions of Bushmen from their ancestral homes in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. On BBC TV's Newsnight on July 25, Botswana's President Mogae said: "[Professor Good] is a rogue and a vagabond, he's not a gentleman ... I am determined to keep him out of this country."
