Wednesday, November 17, 1993 - 11:00

  • More than 2000 Australians die annually due to workplace accidents and disease.

  • Each day, 50 young workers suffer work-related injuries, five of them leading to permanent incapacity.

  • A worker is injured seriously enough to lodge a workers' compensation claim every 2.4 minutes.

  • Workers in the construction industry are more than twice as likely to be killed at work than those in other industries.
