Thousands march for refugees
Tony Iltis, Melbourne
More than 3000 people joined a march on October 1, organised by the Refugee Action Collective, to call for an end to the persecution of refugees in Australia and an end to the Coalition government. Speakers included Annette Xiberus, representative of the Wurundjeri people; Iraqi refugee, actor and playwright Niz Jabour; Maritime Union of Australia Victorian branch secretary Kevin Bracken; Pakistani refugee Abdul Beg; Your Voice Senate candidate Richard Frankland; and Socialist Alliance candidate for Melbourne Zoe Kenny.
