Anti-free trade agreement rally
SYDNEY — Fifty global justice activists protested outside a "breakfast speech" by trade minister Mark Vaile, to the Australian Institute of Export in Sydney's CBD, early on the morning of May 31. They were opposing a free trade agreement with the US which would sacrifice important areas of Australian social and environmental policy.
The action was organised by Global Justice Sydney, Aid/Watch, and AFTINET (the Australian Fair Trade and Investment Network). Speakers included Doug Cameron, the national secretary of the AMWU, Dr Peter Sainsbury from the Public Health Association, who spoke about the planned scrapping
of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, and Uniting Church Reverend Dr Ann Wansbrough.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
