Photo exhibition celebrates water activism

ME NAM ::: Rivers is an exciting photography exhibition that celebrates waterways and community activism to protect them, in Australia and in the Asia-Pacific region. It is sponsored by AID/Watch.

Through the use of images of water, its immediacy and realism, some of Australasia's most renowned photographers provide an intimate glimpse of life around rivers. The viewer is led on a journey that explores political and corporate efforts to commodify and control our water resources.

ME NAM ::: Rivers is to be held at NSW Parliament House, Macquarie Street, from 9am-4.30pm, weekdays, October 7-17. It will be opened by Peter Garrett, president of the Australian Conservation Foundation, at 7pm, on October 14, in the Jubilee Room.

The works of Paul Blackmore, Gordon Undy, Peter Solness, Ruby Davies, Maylei Hunt, Daniela Guerra, Japan's Yoshiaki Murayama and Taiwan's Hong Tien-Jun will featured.

Inspirational and at times confronting, ME NAM ::: Rivers will leave you with a desire to understand the politics and controversy behind the world's fresh water crisis, and hopefully the urge to take action.
