350 attend social forum
BY ALISON DELLIT
SYDNEY — Around 350 people attended the Sydney Social Forum, held at the city campus of the University of Technology Sydney, on October 24-26.
The forum was launched with a plenary, titled "Is the American empire unstoppable?", featuring three interantional guests: Nicola Bullard, the deputy director of Focus on the Global South; Ariel Guides, from the Philippines Freedom From Hunger Coalition; and David Barsamian, the director of Alternative Radio, which produces radio programs distributed throughout the US and internationally.
Other than this plenary, which was the best attended with 160 participants, and the final plenary, attended by around 60 people, the forum consisted of many workshops run concurrently.
The workshops, which varied considerably in size, discussed diverse topics, including alternative media, biotechnology, unionism, sustainable communities, fighting neoliberalism in Latin America, homelessness and solidarity with Indonesia and Aceh.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
