V-Day play for asylum seekers

MELBOURNE — A benefit production of Eve Ensler's groundbreaking, award-winning play, The Vagina Monologues — hailed as funny, poignant, intelligent and courageous — will dive into the mystery, humour, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement of women's experiences.

The special V-Day edition of the play will be performed at Melbourne University's recently refurbished Union Theatre as part of the V-Day International College Campaign — an initiative that invites members of colleges and universities around the world to present benefit productions of The Vagina Monologues on their campuses to raise money and awareness to stop violence against women and children in their local communities and to empower young people.

All proceeds from the Melbourne performances will be donated to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in Footscray, a non-profit, independent, non-government funded, registered charity. Each week the centre's volunteers ensure that 1000 asylum seekers — of which 600 are women and children — do not go without food, medical care, advocacy, support and hope.

The Vagina Monologues will be performed at the Union Theatre, University of Melbourne, on March 29, 30, 31 and April 5. Tickets may be purchased by phoning Ticketek on 13 28 49 or online at <http://www.ticketek.com>. Tickets are $16.60 concession and $21.60 full.
