WA Socialist Alliance seeks registration
WA Socialist Alliance seeks registration
BY JANE ARMANASCO
PERTH — After successful state registration campaigns in NSW and
Tasmania, the Western Australia Socialist Alliance has begun the task of
acquiring state electoral registration.
In WA, changes to the electoral registration laws in 2000 mean that
a political party needs 500 enrolled members to become registered and thus
have its party name on the ballot paper next to its candidates. The State
Electoral Commission also requires that letters of confirmation are returned
from members before the registration process can continue.
“Meeting these requirements will be difficult, but we think it is achievable”,
WA Socialist Alliance co-convenor Nikki Ulasowski told Green Left Weekly.
“We are appealing to all Socialist Alliance members and supporters to assist
with this registration campaign to ensure it is successful.
“We are asking all those people who support the democratic right of
parties to put forward candidates in elections to help with the campaign.”
If you can help with the Socialist Alliance registration campaign in
WA, or if you know of any other people who could help in the state, phone
Nikki on (08) 9218 9608 or email <perth@socialist-alliance.org>.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
