The Fire Next Time
The Fire Next Time

SYDNEY — Popping in for a quiet drink at Max's Petersham Inn to hear popular folk singer Peter Hicks' new band The Fire Next Time proved a very rewarding experience.
At last, some overtly political music played by a skilled bunch of musicians. The band's material is mostly original, some very up-tempo fiddle tunes played expertly by Chris Ransom, and some of my favourite folk number like "Back Home in Derry".
Hicks likes to keep things up to date. The night's set included a song about Bougainville.
The band certainly could be tighter (a bit more practice, guys) but they have a lot of potential. They were very enjoyable.
You can catch The Fire Next Time at a benefit for the campaign against black deaths in custody at the Gaelic Club, Devonshire St, Surry Hills, on November 21.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
