Benefit for Sydney public radio's "Mr R & B" — The many admirers of Chris Dell, stalwart presenter of Sydney radio's premier black roots music program, Stormy Monday on 2MBS-FM, have joined forces to organise a medical benefit on his behalf. The money raised will help Chris cover the costs of expensive cancer surgery. The line-up of performers should include the Mighty Reapers, the Foreday Riders, the Backsliders, Donny Hop and the Kings of Bop, Sally King and Scarlet Rose. Some classic and rare blues and jazz videos will be screened. The benefit is on Saturday, November 28, at the Bridge Hotel, Rozelle. Stormy Monday has been presenting the best in blues, r & b, African, reggae and African Caribbean, gospel, jazz and cajun/zydeco music for over 10 years. The show airs every Monday night at 10 p.m. on 2MBS, 102.5 FM.
Pacific Currents — A night for sounds of the sea, indigenous performance, tourist hype and techno-culture. Contemporary art from around the Pacific rim. ABC FM Stereo, Mon November 23, 9 a.m.
Sex and culture — In the Mix eroticises the airwaves with a look at the popular culture of sexuality. ABC Radio National, Mon November 23, 10.05 a.m. and 8.05 p.m.
Out on Wednesday: The Backsliders live — The Backsliders is an Australian band which celebrates African American music from the 1920s to the 1950s. It performs the music of Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, Fred McDowell and Leadbelly. The Backsliders are guitarist and vocalist Dominic Turner, percussionist Peter Burgess, harmonica player extraordinaire Jim Conway. ABC FM Stereo, Wed November 25, 8 p.m.
