Refugee rights protests

HOBART — Hundreds of people signed petitions and tooted their car horns in support of refugees' rights at a series of lunchtime vigils, organised by Resistance, outside immigration department offices between January 27 and February 1.

Activists are planning a big demonstration in Hobart to coincide with the national refugees' rights protest in Canberra on February 12. Contact Sarah Cleary on 6234 6397 or email <hobart@resistance.org.au> to get involved.

February 12 hunger strike

CANBERRA — Socialist Alliance will organise a hunger strike in a tent city on the lawns of the Parliament House, from noon, February 11, until 6pm, February 12. On the night of February 11, Socialist Alliance activists will establish a tent city on parliament lawns.
