'Little Daffodils of Spring'

for Michelle A Taylor

The killing is warm

and separates us,

keeps us going

We run to the dead

as we never would

to the living

There is a secret about this

badly kept

because we know the way

life unworks itself

Yellow leaves the field for the eye

What is cruel finds history

where it may shelter,

find new legs,

and again learn to walk

And there you are

among the little daffodils of Spring

sharing whatever is in your hands

with all who can

with some part of themselves

love what grows

You know that judgement

bends itself back to the judge

That justice

is what the smallest flower knows
