Canberra to shut down Mining Industry House
BY ANDREW HALL
CANBERRA — Its final tactics all but refined, the Canberra M1 Alliance has predicted that its May 1 blockade of Mining Industry House, which houses the main national lobby group for the big mining companies, will be a resounding success.
The blockade begins at 7am, and there will be a series of speakers from unions and solidarity, environmental and socialist groups at 9.30am and 11.30am before protesters will march on Garema Place with the ACT Trades and Labor Council at noon.
A majority of workers in Mining Industry House work for the National Museum and have made arrangements not to attend the site for the day, following negotiations between the M1 Alliance, the Community and Public Sector Union and National Museum management. A number of CPSU members are delighted that they will not be able to work because of the protest.
The M1 Alliance is also organising a final convergence meeting for all those planning to attend the blockade on April 30.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
