Resistance in action
Build the anti-corporate movement
SYDNEY — Students from all over the dispersed Penrith campus of the University of Western Sydney gathered on September 6 to discuss building the anti-corporate movement.
Participants left the meeting determined to build the October protests against the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Brisbane, and the Commonwealth Business Forum in Melbourne.
'Refugees should be welcome'
PERTH — More than 30 people attended an emergency speakout, called by Resistance, in support of the Tampa refugees on September 7. Dozens of people stopped to listen to the speakers.
Speakers included Tony Cooke from UnionsWA and Chris Cain from the Socialist Alliance. Cooke read out a statement of solidarity that had been endorsed by a full meeting of UnionsWA.
A couple of large men attempted to provoke the protesters into a fist fight. After attempting to steal a banner that read "Refugees should be welcome", the men grabbed one protester by the hair before being restrained by other protesters.
The men were belatedly taken away by the police to cheers from onlookers.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
