Unionists to protest WTO

SYDNEY — Metalworkers from around the world will march through Sydney's central business district on November 13 to "stop corporate globalisation", in one of the first such demonstrations by unionists in Australia.

One thousand delegates to the conference of the International Metalworkers Federation, being held in Sydney at the time, will join thousands of members of the three metal trades unions, workers from other unions and members of the community to rally against the threatened launch of a new round of World Trade Organisation talks.

The march coincides with the biennial ministerial meeting of the WTO, being held in the Persian Gulf state of Qatar, and will be one of hundreds of actions across the globe in protest at corporate-driven economic policies.

A coalition of 60 unions, community organisations and activist groups have endorsed and organised the protest.

The march assembles at the Convention Centre in Darling Harbour at noon on November 13 and marches through the city to Martin Place. Everyone is welcome; bring banners, flags and your friends and workmates.
