Looking for the Iron Curtain — US broadcaster and journalist Reggie Nadelson and Russian journalist Vladimir Posner take an epic journey in a Trabant, the "classic" East German car, from one end of the former "Iron Curtain" to the other to appraise the changes that have taken place in the last 10 years. SBS, Wednesday, January 17, 3.30pm.
The Face of Debt — Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world. Because of its uranium deposits, it received loans from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in the 1970s. Repaying its debt of US$1.4 billion is a huge task for a country of 9 million people with few resources. The country's currency has been devalued and the austerity programs demanded by the banks mean that there is no money for health or welfare. Noma is a disease which has ravaged children's faces in Niger, but could be stopped early by using a $5 mouthwash. SBS, Thursday, January 18, 12.30pm.
Secrets of States: The President's Men — A three-part series that examines 50 years of power wielded by the US National Security Council and US secretaries of state. The first episode deals with the 1961 US-sponsored attempted invasion of Cuba and the 1962 "Cuban missile crisis". SBS, Saturday, January 20, 7.30pm.
Michael Moore: The Awful Truth — Moore is so tired of constantly being thrown out of corporate headquarters that he auditions a series of "replacements" for his job. SBS, Tuesday, January 23, 8pm.
