CUBA: environmentalism acknowledged
The United Nations has selected Havana, the capital of Cuba, to host next year's World Environment Day. The choice acknowledges revolutionary Cuba's outstanding achievements in the protection of the environment.
The announcement was made on September 4 by Cuba's Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment, Rosa Elena Simeon, who said that the Cuban people are aware of their environmental responsibilities at a grassroots level, which has contributed to the overall improvement of the island's environment. She told reporters that a number of activities will be held leading up to World Environment Day, which will be marked in Havana in June.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
