Wild Spaces film festival
Australia's only national environmental film festival, Wild Spaces, has been launched for the fifth year. The festival will hit 18 cities and regions, covering every state of Australia, on November 3-5.
This film and video festival, which is focused entirely on environmental and social justice issues, attracted over 15,000 people in 12 regions last year. This year organisers are expecting even more people to attend the screenings being held throughout Australia.
Featuring 28 local and international films, ranging from animations to documentaries, the festival covers both topical and critical issues. Wild Spaces will showcase high quality Australian and international film and video productions to inform, entertain and inspire a wide audience of individuals on environmental and social justice issues.
This unique Australian event has been described by Australian Greens Senator Bob Brown as "a film festival with purpose, direction and passion to boot ... Wild Spaces reaches far and wide with the inspiration and courage to motivate many Australians".
The launch of the festival is especially significant, as Wild Spaces 2000 has grown to become a huge, truly national event. The festival web site (<http://www.wildspaces.wild.net.au>), which attracted many of the festival's overseas entrants, has been launched with details of this year's screenings and a spectacular new look interface.
This year's festival is being organised from Friends of the Earth's offices in Melbourne and will be held in Adelaide, Alice Springs, Ballarat, Bellingen, Blue Mountains, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Cairns, Darwin, Fremantle, Goongerah, Launceston, Lismore, Melbourne, Richmond, Sydney, Tamworth, Wollongong.
Visit the web site for details of screenings.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
