QATAR: Invitation to WTO withdrawn
The Persian Gulf state of Qatar has taken back its invitation to host the next ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organisation.
The last ministerial meeting, in Seattle, US, collapsed in part due to massive demonstrations which disrupted its proceedings. Qatar was the only country willing to issue an invitation, as others fear similar public unrest.
The country seemed perfect for WTO officials as its tight visa controls and harsh repression would prevent large-scale protests against the organisation. But Qatari government officials have now claimed that the country does not have the hotel rooms for the anticipated 7000 politicians, trade officials and journalists.
The lack of a venue is a significant obstacle to the planned launch of a comprehensive new round of "free trade" talks.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
