Student conference for global justice gathers support
BY KERRYN WILLIAMS
In the past week, the University of Canberra Students Association and the Wollongong University Student Representative Council have added their support to the "Global Action for Global Justice" student solidarity conference scheduled for April 19-20, donating $150 and $200
respectively.
Others supporting the conference include Action in Solidarity with Indonesia and East Timor (ASIET), the Indigenous Student Network (ISN), Indigenous Social Justice Association and the Sydney University international solidarity collective.
Student activists are stepping up their efforts to ensure the conference, to be held at the University of New South Wales,
is a successful forum for building solidarity and anti-corporate campaigns on campus. They are currently calling on other student organisations to join the project and contribute much-needed funds to cover the air-fares of delegates from student movements in the region.
Daniel Ooi, conference organiser and Sydney University international solidarity officer in 2000, told Green Left Weekly, "A number of student activists from around the
world have expressed interest in attending and speaking at the conference. The National Student League for Democracy (LMND) in Indonesia has endorsed the conference and pledged to send a representative. This will make the conference a vital opportunity to learn more about struggles in the Asia-Pacific region."
For more information or to help organise the conference, contact Daniel Ooi on 02 9690 1977.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
