Students organise global justice conference
BY DANIEL OOI
SYDNEY — Student activists have begun preparations for the Student Solidarity Conference to be held in Sydney next April. The conference will bring together solidarity activists from around the country, and the Asia-Pacific region, to discuss issues of imperialist globalisation and corporate tyranny, the abolition of the Third World debt reduction, solidarity with national liberation struggles and refugee rights.
Organisers have described the conference as a chance to increase students' awareness of international struggles and involvement in solidarity campaigns. The conference will be an exciting networking opportunity, with many organisations from the region interested in sending representatives, including the Indonesian National League for Democracy (LMND).
The conference has been initiated by Action in Solidarity with Indonesia and East Timor and endorsed by a wide range of forces, including Resistance, the All Burma Student Democratic Organisation, LMND, the Indigenous Student Network and the Committees in Solidarity with Latin America and the Caribbean.
The conference is also looking for financial assistance, and so far donations have been made by the La Trobe University Students Representative Council, University of Canberra Students Association, and Southern Cross University SRC, Lismore.
The Student Solidarity conference will be held at the Pavilion, University of New South Wales, on April 19-20. If you would like to participate in the conference, join the organising committee, present a workshop at the conference or distribute publicity on your campus, email <globalactionforglobaljustice@yahoo.com>.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
