Historic houses threatened
Historic houses threatened

MELBOURNE — The planners for Melbourne University Private — an annexe of Melbourne University reserved the rich — have announced the demolition of 18 National Trust-listed terrace houses in Carlton.
The houses are to be demolished to make way for the controversial University Square development. The National Trust has proposed alternative plans to save some of the houses.
Throughout the planning stages of MUP, there has been next to no consultation with those the project will affect most.
The Melbourne University Graduate Union owns some of the targeted houses, which it rents out as accommodation for graduate students. The union was not told of the plans until they were already decided.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
