Let the rainbow shine

Let the rainbow shine
By Shayne Wilde
Judy Small has long been recognised as the voice of our times. Describing
herself as a singer who writes songs, Judy has recorded eight CDS, mainly
in the folk tradition, but her music also has country, jazz and classical
influences.
Her latest release — Let the Rainbow Shine, Judy Small Out and Proud
— is one with a difference. It documents the lives and loves of lesbian
and gay people.
The focus is on the ordinary nature of gay and lesbian relationships;
the humour, pathos, satire and Judy's lyrical poetry combine to create
a collection of songs and stories that are both affirming and joyful.
The other difference with this album is that it has been made possible
by sponsors. Contributions towards the recording were received from both
gay and straight people from all over Australia, as well as the US, Canada,
England, Scotland, Fiji and Japan.
To make the recording, Judy gathered talented musicians from around
Australia and, with producer Siiri Metsar, they worked as a team on arrangements
and recording. The result is an album of exceptional character.
Judy is well loved for the honesty of her music and performances. It
has been said that a Judy Small concert provides opportunities for people
to see the world from another perspective. Let the Rainbow Shine, Judy
Small Out and Proud will be no exception.
The album will be launched in Brisbane with a concert at 1pm on Sunday,
February 7, at the Tivoli Cabaret and Bar, and will feature a special appearance
by the Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir. Tickets ($25/$20 concession)
are available from the Tivoli, 52 Costin Street, Fortitude Valley, or by
phoning 3852 1711.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
