Hunger strike
Hunger strike
As part of the international day of solidarity with Indonesia and East Timor on May 22, high school students and Resistance are organising a 24-hour hunger strike. The aim is to raise money for the People's Democratic Party (PRD) campaign to free political prisoners.
Between 1996 and 1998 leading members of the PRD were jailed for speaking out against the Suharto regime. Included were Dita Sari, chairperson of the Indonesian Centre for Labour Struggle, and Budiman Sujatmiko, chairperson of the PRD. They are among eight remaining PRD prisoners.
The hunger strike will be launched outside Sydney Town Hall on May 21, 5pm. Hunger strikers will spend the night at the Glebe Neighbourhood Centre watching films and hearing speakers about the issue. They will be collecting donations at Glebe markets the following morning, and will join the international day of solidarity rally starting at 1pm at Town Hall.
To participate or donate to the hunger strike, call Sarah on 9690 1977.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
