Not a bed of roses
By Kathy Pinkus
HOBART — A Bed Of Roses, a women's writing exhibition, to open shortly, has been the long-time dream of women's refuge workers, Anne and Lilly. They feel it is a way of "opening doors into women's lives".
The exhibition comprises eight women sharing aspects of their lives. It also points to the causes of homelessness. Anne explained how the exhibition title came about "Because roses are feminine ... and because it is a young women's refuge and so many women ring up for a bed. But the flip-side is that it is not a bed of roses", because "people's dreams and fantasies about life often break up under a harsh kind of reality."
A Bed Of Roses is showing from April 4-9. The exhibition will be open from 12.30 to 5pm daily at the Moonah Arts Centre, 65 Hopkins Street, Moonah. Five Stories High, Hobart's women's circus, will be performing at the opening on April 4.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
