Subversive women
What does it mean to be a feminist? There are well-known women who have "made it" in a man's world. Their achievements both help to dispel the myths of male supremacy and encourage other women to challenge the second-class status assigned by this society.
This feature, coordinated by SALLY LOW, looks at another type of fighter for women's liberation. These women typify, in different ways, the feminists struggling to change the world rather than conquer it.
All were asked, "What relevance does feminism have to you personally and to society in general?" Their answers convey some of the breadth of the impact of feminism. They show it to be alive and kicking and, in the way they have been inspired and given confidence to challenge their roles and their society, they show it to be a truly subversive phenomenon.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
