Hong Kong protest against unemployment
HONG KONG — Hong Kong Voice of Democracy has reported that about 15 activists staged a courageous protest in mid-March against Beijing's arrest of Chinese workers who were organising against unemployment and the sharp deterioration of their living conditions. The activists marched through the CBD chanting "Down with Li Peng", despite Beijing making clear the protest would be considered subversive. The group demanded safeguards for workers' rights to independent unions, the reinstatement of workers' right to strike, the establishment of comprehensive social welfare for the unemployed and the release of all jailed union activists. By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
