NATIONAL — In a triumph for truth and justice, on November 2 the ABC's Media Watch program gave its "Lizard of the Year" award to 2UE's Stan Zamanek for his rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth coverage of Resistance's high school walkouts against racism.
MELBOURNE — Students at Princes Hill High School held a meeting on October 28 to discuss the Jabiluka uranium mine. As part of one Resistance activist's year 11 communications class, the 20 students watched David Bradbury's acclaimed documentary Jabiluka before discussing Resistance's campaign against racism and forthcoming actions.
DARWIN — The left-wing Activate ticket at Northern Territory University, made up of Resistance members and other student activists, came very close to winning the presidency of the Students Representative Council. Resistance member Natalie Zirngast was elected as one of three NTU delegates to December's National Union of Students conference.
SYDNEY — More than 35 young people attended a seminar on the history of the East Timorese and Indonesian struggles for freedom. The October 31 seminar, organised by Resistance, combined discussion on the history of the Suharto dictatorship with assessment of the current situation in East Timor and in Indonesia. The seminar served as preparation for the upcoming Dili massacre commemoration and the scheduled tour of Australia by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jose Ramos Horta and Indonesian democracy activist Wilson bin Nurtias.
