A national survey conducted by NUS has revealed that (surprise!) universities are charging students an increasing level of fees.

The survey revealed that students are being charged for course materials, reading lists, workbooks and assignment questions. Among the highest fees charged were $250 for late enrolments, $50 for re-marking essays and $20 for replacement student cards and academic records.

The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology and the University of NSW were recorded as charging the most additional fees.

Zanny Begg, NUS Queensland co-education officer, told Resistance, "The federal government has created this crisis by simultaneously slashing university funding and loosening the legislation regarding fee charging at a campus level.

"Some of these fees are technically legal, some are illegal, but all are outrageous. They all mean more money for education is coming out of students' pockets when it should be coming from the government."
