Fighting fund success

Supporters of Green Left Weekly have given generously to the paper's fighting fund so far this year. During last month alone, donations and fundraising totalled $13,229.

Those who support the paper financially understand the vital importance of maintaining and strengthening a progressive voice that challenges the anti-environment, anti-people corporate point of view of the establishment press. As the control of Australian media becomes ever more centralised in the hands of a few obscenely rich individuals whose only concern is to accumulate even more wealth, the role of Green Left Weekly in telling the truth about local, national and world events, and the forces behind them, becomes ever more important.

Without government or big business backing, meeting the financial challenge of producing Green Left each week is only possible because of supporters' contributions to the fighting fund.

By the end of the first quarter of '97, total fundraising and donations had reached $30,627, just short of the $32,000 target for that period. The money raised last month was 110% of the March target of $12,000, and included several donations of $1000 or more.
