The Owl and the Pussy Cat
The Owl and the Pussy Cat
em = By Phil Shannon
The Owl and the Pussy Cat made an Accord
in the year 1983
They made many promises and scorned doubting Thomases
and signed it most gratefully.
The Owl looked up to the dollar above
and sang with a nasal whine,
"O tome cat Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
Our economy will be fine, be fine
Our economy will be fine!"
Pussy said to the Owl, "You'll be my pal,
our wages shall match South Korea.
My kittens will diet most times I say 'quiet',
but what if they don't agreea?
Let's find a thesaurus for the phrase that's best for us
to help us sell our Accord."
And on a yellowing page they found "social wage"
And cried "Thanks to Reverend Howe and the Lord, the Lord
Thanks to Reverend Howe and the Lord."
And while Pussy grew fat from all the time that he sat
on tripartite committees,
The Owl was dining with people from mining
and rich nobs from the cities
Who were most thankful for their growing bankful
as they bathed in the corporatist sun.
It was more than they'd got from the Old Peacock
Now the Owl and the Pussy were one, were one
Now the Owl and the Pussy were one.
To aid the commentaries and elucidations of literary scholars, the author has appended the following footnote:
The owl is a bird of prey, as indeed is the hawk.
Pussy cats come in two forms: the "wild cat" (which socialists like) and the "tame cat" (which we are, unfortunately, all too familiar with).

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
