Women unionists support Indonesia campaign

ADELAIDE — The "Free Dita Sari" campaign has obtained the support of a group of women trade unionists who met on November 4.

The group includes representatives of the Community and Public Sector Union, the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union; the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union and the Australian Services Union. Women from other unions and the Trades and Labour Council have sent messages of support.

The group agreed to develop a policy to take to trade unions and the ACTU Women's Committee, and to circulate a petition to be presented to the minister for foreign affairs, Alexander Downer. It also agreed to organise a fundraiser to assist the legal defence fund for political prisoners in Indonesia. The next meeting of the group will be held at 12.30pm on November 22 at the AMWU office. All women unionists are welcome.
