Earthbeat: The Fate of the Forests in Northern NSW — The northern NSW forests are a hot spot in the woodchipping and logging debate. They are among the most spectacular and diverse eucalypt forests in Australia, yet they also sustain an important timber industry. As the NSW government comes closer to signing a regional forest agreement for the area, it has tried to pacify the conservationists by setting aside forest in moratorium areas, and industry by offering it resource security. The agreement contains a commitment to harvest fixed amounts of timber. What happens if these logging levels prove to be unsustainable?
