South African province twins with Cuba

By Norm Dixon The premier of South Africa's North West Province, Popo Molefe, signed an agreement with leaders of Cuba's Santiago de Cuba province on February 26 that will lead to exchanges in the fields of education, health, culture, sport, technology, film and television and economic cooperation. Molefe is currently visiting Cuba. Earlier in the day, Molefe placed a wreath on the grave of Cuba's national hero, Jose Martí. Accompanied by Santiago de Cuba head Dr Luis Estruch Rancano and senior members of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power, Molefe also visited the graves of the Cuban war heroes who died in the liberation struggles in Africa. The South African delegation was accompanied by a business delegation investigating possibilities for investment in Cuba. Meanwhile, the South African minister of health, Dr Dlamini Zuma, and senior officials of the department of health met the Cuban deputy minister of health, Dr Jorge Antelo, and 96 Cuban doctors when they arrived at Johannesburg International Airport on February 27. The Cuban doctors will be deployed in all the nine South African provinces.
